Rice has evolved over millions of years in nature adapting to environmental stresses and positive selection. Man has selectively bred rice for thousands of years to increase yield and achieve other desirable traits. These changes have resulted in genetic changes through positive selection.
Evolutionary Genomics’ Adapted Traits Platform sifted through vast numbers of genes to identify the handful of important positively selected genetic changes that resulted in increased yield. The result was two genes that have been proven in field trials to provide an increase in yield.
Evolutionary Genomics licensed the worldwide rights to the use of the genes to the first company to commercialize hybrid rice seed in North and South America.
